It really isn’t too far off to propose that having just green smoothies could provide nearly all the components that your human body needs to stay healthy. Short of perhaps Vitamin D and Vitamin B12, in my opinion, these drinks offer everything (yes, even protein). This biggest issue for me when I started on green smoothies were the unhealthy cravings. Discover how I alleviated them.
I would like to start out by telling you that the information in this article is simply my opinion which is based on the information I have read from expert authors and from more than a decade of living and eating the way I have on a daily basis. Couple that with my twice a year blood work that indicates zero deficiencies, I believe that this information is very valuable. It could be that it works just for me, my genetic makeup and my body type, I can’t say for certain. But, just like cigarette smoke will certainly affect each one of us with various degrees of health negatives, the green smoothie diet, I feel, will certainly affect each one of us with various degrees of health positives. Try it for yourself, after talking about it with a naturopath or other doctor initially of course.
The body is supposed to be equipped to heal naturally right? Why are people always sick then? Perhaps that statement is wrong and the body can’t heal itself naturally? No! The predicament is that men and women a) don’t provide it with the right amount of raw materials, usually by way of diet, it requires to heal itself and b) we constantly bombard our body with things that hinder the function of the limited number of essential resources that we do provide it.
I’m a big admirer of the raw food diet. To say that adding heat to food past a specific temperature destroying much needed enzymes that are significant to digestion makes plenty of sense to me. Further, it is implied that to get the most from our food that we must chew it until it disappears. We have troubles handling big pieces of food. Also, I strongly believe that people can thrive with a a diet of mostly fruits and green vegetables, with of course some healthy fats. In regards to healthy fats, avocados, soaked nuts and seeds is all I generally consume.
The main meals I consume every single day are composed of sufficient amounts of raw fruits and greens in the form of green smoothies. Smoothies, being essentially liquefied, my body does a great job of assimilating the nutrients.
A huge hurdle for some when switching diets, and a big one for me is the cravings for unhealthy foods. Just like someone that has addiction to drugs or alcohol must go through a detox to be able to heal, we pretty much must to do the same thing. Our cells are comprised of stuff from the food that we have ingested in the past. The body generally craves more of the same unhealthy foods that contribute to the makings of each of the sick cells in our bodies. With a drug detox, many times, sauna therapy is used to sweat out the drugs. That generally helps eliminate the physical drug cravings which will allow the individual a better chance of remaining sober. For us, improving our eating may enhance the clearing of toxic foods as well which can be conveniently removed in our poop, through sweat and our pee. But, we may still crave those foods while some of the toxic elements in our cells are still present.
I, myself, have found that immediately after having the first drink of my smoothie the cravings for sugar, salt, meat, grease, etc started to dwindle. After I was done drinking the smoothie, the unhealthy cravings disappeared completely and I would be content. The issue then was that the unhealthy cravings would return as I grew hungry. So I started to make certain I was on top of it and would have another smoothie available before the cravings would come back, or not too long after they reared their ugly heads. The unhealthy cravings gradually subsided for good as I cleaned out my system. And then I began to crave greens instead!
